Examples for
Common Core Math: Fractions
From third to fifth grade, students develop an understanding of fractions as numbers that represent parts of a whole. Students learn to compare, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. Visual models such as number lines and tape diagrams give students a conceptual way to represent fractions. In fourth grade, students begin to generate fractions with common denominators so that by fifth grade, students can add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Students also use fractions to solve real-world problems and begin to use decimal notation to represent and perform operations with fractions.
